Two patinated bronze suiban

19th Century
The first of tapering square shape raised on four cloud-form supports and cast in high relief with various insects on a basketweave ground, base cartouche reading Tempo-nen Tenjo-chu, with an inscribed tomobako; the second of rectangular form with animal mask handles and featuring pairs of dragons or tortoises to either side, signed Tonraku.
