Usually the pleochroism is very pronounced in iolite and three different colors can be seen in the same stone. In viewing an iolite stone, the colors of violet blue, gray and a lighter blue can be seen depending on the angle of sight. The present cushion-cut gem possesses a rich, even violet-blue hue and excellent luster. Rarely seen in sizes above three carats or with this degree of transparency—it is a true gemstone for the collector. The finest iolite comes from the region of Orissa, India and this particular emerald-cut stone is large, exceptionally clean and lustrous. Weighing approximately 20.74 carats and 18.5 x 13.5 x 11.0mm
