The name kyanite is derived from the Greek word kyanos which means “blue” referring to the shades of colors in which this mineral is found. A mineral known for its splintery fracture, the present large oval-cut stone is all the more notable for its gemmy, lustrous appearance with its rich blue color, reminiscent of a sapphire. Weighing approximately 10.90 carats and measuring 16.0 x 11.5 x 5.7mm
