Sri Lanka
Pure spinel is colorless, but most varieties are colored, no doubt in many cases with chromium. Through the ages spinel has been confused with ruby but it is distinguished from the later by being singly refractive. From a classic locality for spinel comes this attractive oval, cushion-cut stone having an attractive deep rose color. The excellent luster and very good clarity both make this a very wearable stone, as does its relative hardness (which at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, is only somewhat less than that of ruby). Weighing approximately 8.96 carats and measuring12.5 x 11.2 x 8.5mm
