Rare Clinohumite

Pamir Mountains
Tadzhikistan

Clinohumite is an extremely rare mineral usually found in small grains. As a result it is rarely faceted into gems and is hardly ever seen in the collector's market in sizes of larger than 0.30 carats or so. The deposits are scarce and only sporadically mined, making clinohumite one of the rarest gemstones with only a few thousand carats known to exist in private collections. The present offering is an oval-cut stone distinguished not only by its brilliant mandarin orange color by its unheard of size of nearly 13 carats. Both the transparency and luster are exceptional for the species and with a Mohs hardness of 6 it would be suitable for mounting. Weighing approximately 12.95 carats and measuring 17.6 x 14.3x 7.5mm
