Bastnaesite, is one of a few rare earth carbonate minerals, constituents of the earth's near-surface crust. Bastnaesite gets its name from its type locality, Bastnas Mine, Riddarhyttan, Vastmanland, Sweden. Its actual chemical composition is Cerium Lanthanum Yttrium Carbonate Fluoride. A scarce mineral, it is available only in small supply. The present stone is very large given the typical crystal habit which normally includes small hexagonal rounded flakes and short prismatic crystals. A deep, rich orange color and fine luster distinguish this cushion-cut gem. A true collector's stone. Weighing approximately 12.82 carats and measuring 13.9 x 14.0 x 11.0mm
