Scapolite, coming from the Greek word for “shaft”, is commonly found in stubby to long prismatic crystals, hence the derivation of its name. It forms in metamorphic rocks from the alteration of plagioclase feldspars. Not well known amongst the general public as a gemstone it is, nonetheless, very attractive. This beautiful oval-cut stone of exceptionally large size displays a golden yellow hue and luster and an attractive checkerboard faceting to its crown. Weighing approximately 72.16 carats and measuring 42.0 x 21.0 x 15.0mm
