Originally found in South Africa by Hendrick Von Prehn, ( a Dutch colonial army officer and mineralogist who was Governor of the Cape of Good Hope Colony(, prehnite was brought to Holland in 1774. Three years after his death in 1785, the mineral he introduced to the world, officially acquired his name. This fact gives prehnite the significant distinction of being the first mineral named after a person. More recently, in the 1980s, deposits of prehnite were found in Australia's Northern Territory. A lovely celery green, Australian prehnite has become known under the registered tradename SunJade® due to its "appearance of bottled sunlight". Prehnite glows in sunlight, in a phenomenon called adularescence similar to moonstones. Designed as a choker necklace mounted with 19 oval cabochon prehnites of gem-quality with a high degree of transparency(and a pear-shaped prehnite as an embellishment to the back of the neck), weighing a total of approximately 350 carats, alternating with circular link connectors set with small brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing a total of 2.10 carats, mounted in 18K white gold, length 14in.
