Designed by Luis Alberto Quispe
With a refinement absolutely at the level of fine German craftsmanship, this astoundingly large museum-quality sculpture depicts a peregrine falcon at rest. The wings feathers are realistically carved in detail from perfectly matched rough mixture of golden and dark blue, rare combination of Tiger's eye & Falcon’s eye quartz from South Africa, known in the mineral hobby as "Hawk's eye—a pun on the actual subject matter. The breast is carved from orange zebradorite quartz from Madagascar, which spots pattern and colors where meticulously selected so that they replicate the feather looks from the real Peregrine falcon. The well-modeled feet are formed of cast sterling silver, while the eyes and nose bridge are trimmed in 18K yellow gold. The eyes are a pair of hawk's eye cabochons, oriented so that reflected light captures their cat's eye effect. The feet rest upon a large specimen of Peruvian petrified wood raised on a base of fossiliferous black marble, height 49in.
