Wah Wah Mountains, Utah
A rare and sizeable red beryl crystal, (also known as "red emerald"), from the only known locality for the mineral. The claim, once briefly operated by Tiffany and Co. in search of treasured gem rough, is no longer viable as the removal of the overburden is no longer cost-effective. The present example has a single, large well-formed hexagonal crystal, measuring approximately ¼ inch in height with an attractive raspberry color contrasting starkly against the white rhyolite matrix. Specimens of this quality are now difficult to obtain, measuring 4 ½ x 3 ¾ x 2 ½ in.
