Designed and fabricated by Mark Doolittle
One in a series of handmade books by the artist featuring wood covers, with spectacular deep relief carvings surrounding a beautiful example of a fossil Diplomystus dentatus from the Lower Eocene of the Green River Formation in Wyoming. The front and back covers were sequentially cut from a single block of a rare burlwood from Indonesia (Afzelia quanzensis), showing stunning grain pattern and a beautiful orange tone; the covers were then hand carved and textured by the artist. Inside, the journal contains signatures of the highest quality white linen paper, wrapped with rich turquoise-colored handmade papers from Japan. The signatures and wood covers are hand bound using a technique known as two-needle Coptic sewing. Measures 13.5 X 10.5 X 2.25in
