Orbicular Jasper Sphere

Morovato Mine, Ambolozo Peninsula, Madagascar
Found only in 2000 in northwestern Madagascar, this particular ornamental stone also goes by the name of ocean jasper as it is found along the intertidal shores of northeast Madagascar. Orbicular jasper is a variety of jasper that contains vari-colored orbicules or spherical inclusions or zones. It is a highly silicified quartz or feldspar that crystallizes in radial aggregates of needle-like crystals, which provide the basis for the orbicular structure seen in this kind of jasper. This large decorative sphere is imbued with deep rose-pinks, amidst green and white and ochre and some drusy crystallized geode crevices, diameter 10 ½ in.
