Sahara Desert
Formed 28 million years ago when a large meteorite exploded over the Sahara Desert, the heat from the impact created molten sand, which quickly cooled and fell back to earth as the distinctive yellow-toned tektites known as Libyan Desert Glass. This 113-gram sphere of almost pure silica has been cut from a larger piece of Libyan Desert Glass, revealing a pale yellow to yellow-green color, which glows beautifully on its illuminated black base, weighs 113 grams; base measures 3.75 x 3.75in
