Stony-Iron, Coarse Octahedrite, IIE Pallasite
Magadan, Russia
Seymchan was originally found in the far-eastern region of Russia in summer, 1967, by a geological survey party near the Hekandue River, in the Magadan District of Russia. The presence of olivine crystals in Seymchan evidences its origin near the core/mantle boundary of a differentiated planetary body (thought to be an asteroid - a small, rocky body that orbits the Sun) which was destroyed during the formation of our solar system, approximately 5.5 to 6.0 billion years ago. Plentiful olivine crystals can be seen within the polished nickel-iron matrix of this specimen, weighs 299 grams (0.65lbs); measures 5 x 5in
