Iron 11AB, Coarsest Octahedrite
Maritime Territory, Russia
An example of the rarer of the two types of Sikhote-Alin meteorites, this specimen displays the small, crater-like surface impressions known as regmaglypts, indicating that it fell from higher in the atmosphere than the schrapnel type examples. The shape of this particular specimen is mesmerizing, featuring various sized regmaglypts and attractive smooth surfaces in a gunmetal gray color. It also includes a small hole, which is highly desired by meteorite collectors; specimens this large are rarely found with this sought-after attribute. Sikhote-Alin meteorites are the best preserved of all nickel-iron meteorites, having fallen in Siberia on February 12, 1947. Offered with a display stand. Weighs 750 grams (1.65lbs); measures 4 x 2 x 2.75in
