Nickel-Iron, Coarse Octahedrite
Gran Chaco, Argentina
Originating from the asteroid belt between Mars & Jupiter—the origin of all iron meteorites—this singular Campo del Cielo (Valley of the Sky) meteorite is very well-preserved, its appearance nearly identical to its original appearance thousands of years ago when it arrived on Earth. Regmaglypts (the "thumb prints" that result from a fiery descent through Earth's atmosphere) are seen on all sides—evidence that this meteorite tumbled, spun and corkscrewed in the minutes prior to impact. Beautiful from every angle, this is an outstanding example of an iron meteorite.
Weighs 46.6lbs (21.1kg); measures 16 x 9 x 4in
