Camarosaurus
Late Jurassic
Wyoming
Camasaurus, a long-necked, herbivorous dinosaur, grew to approximately 65 feet in length and weighed up to 20 tons. Its name, meaning chambered lizard, is derived from the sponge-like holes in its vertebrae, which were advantageous in that they helped decrease the weight of this Jurassic giant. Its five-toed feet displayed a long, sharp claw on the inner toe, as exemplified by the present specimen, which was used for defense. The present claw specimen is mounted in a custom acrylic case along with a research quality cast replica of the same. Case measures 9 x 9.5 x 5in; specimen measures 6in
