Exceptional Fully-Rooted Allosaurus Tooth with Tree Branch on Matrix

Allosaurus fragilis
Late Jurassic
Morrison Formation, Buckshot Quarry, Moffat County, Colorado

Rarely are dinosaur tooth roots discovered intact as these features are extremely fragile. Here is one such example, complete and displaying perfect preservation. Exhibiting gorgeous jet black coloration, the 156-144-milllion-year-old specimen is that of a juvenile as evidenced by its size. Adding to its rarity and aesthetic appeal is a preserved fossil tree branch on the same matrix. An apex predator of the Jurassic, Allosaurus was a large theropod dinosaur that reached lengths of up to 35 feet and weighed up to 3 tons. It was bipedal, meaning that it walked on its hind legs, and was a distant cousin of T. rex. Matrix measures 4.3 x 3in, Length of tooth measures 2.3in
