Mioplosus labracoides
Eocene
Green River Formation, Wyoming
Because Mioplosus is considered an uncommon species in this geologic formation, the presence of three specimens on the same plate is a wonderful rarity. Here, the irregularly shaped matrix displays the golden-toned limestone found in the stratigraphic layer of the Green River Formation known as the F2 Horizon. The aesthetically pleasing presentation, its matrix displaying swirls of iron oxide staining - combined with the presence of three of the ancient perch specimens - makes this piece a remarkable find. Fitted with a French cleat for effortless wall display. Measures 31 x 31in, Fish lengths 14in, 11in, 14 7/8in
