Eurypterus remipes

Serving as the official New York State Fossil, Eurypterus remipes is a famous Eurypterid. Eurypterids, or Sea Scorpions, are an extinct group of arthropods that are known from the Ordovician to the Permian. Related to horseshoe crabs and trilobites, they periodically shed their shells. Possessing a head, segmented body and a tail, the majority of Eurypterids displayed a large pair of paddle-like appendages for locomotion in water. Some had claws; however, Eurypterus remipes lacks claws. Measures 16 x 12in; Largest specimen measures 9in
