Brittle Starfish and Carpoid Plate

Ophiuroidae sp.
Middle Ordovician
Kataoua Formation, Mecissi, Morocco

This fascinating and aesthetically appealing plate contains 14 complete and nearly complete orange brittle starfish - each up to 5 inches in diameter - along with 3 carpoids, an extinct relative of starfish and crinoids. These orange echinoderms are displayed in a free-swimming position with each plated body and flexible tail excellently preserved. A beautiful contrast between the specimens and the brown-gray matrix is seen. Matrix measures 17 x 11in
