A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With earlier tapering double-edged blade cut with three fullers on both sides of the forte incised with 'X' marks and with traces of 'Andrea' within the central fuller on one side and 'Ferara' on the other, an orb and cross mark retaining some copper inlay on each side beyond, iron guard of slender rectangular bars framing fretted and line engraved saltires and side panels pierced with hearts and small circles, the side panels each with ram's horn terminal, fore-guards, line engraved bun-shaped pommel with compressed button, and later leather-wrapped wooden grip (some pitting overall)
