A Rare Left-Hand Dagger
Early 17th Century, Probably English

With tapering double-edged blade of hollowed diamond section forming a ridge along both sides and etched with alternating rectangular plain and foliate panels, the forte on one side with a mark (?), iron hilt with flat arched quillons widening towards the rounded tips, side-ring, rounded pommel with flattened button, and writhen ebony grip (split) of square section bound with two strands of brass wire between brass Turk's heads, the guard and pommel encrusted in silver with running flower-heads and foliage involving draped cherub's heads, all within beaded borders (minor losses)
