A Russian Cossack Shashka Of 1881 Pattern Type For A Boy
Reign Of Tsar Alexander III (1881-1894), Late 19th Century

With slightly curved fullered single-edged blade (pitted) etched on both sides at the forte with the crowned cypher of Alexander III within a panel of symmetrical foliage (worn), and stamped 'E. & F. Horster Solingen' on one side, hilt comprising silver basal mount chased with a design of leaves against a wrigglework ground, replacement beaked pommel en suite and pierced for a sword-knot (missing), and replacement diagonally ribbed dark horn grip, in original wood-lined dark brown leather scabbard with locket, chape and suspension mount en suite with the basal mount, and with a ring of suspension
