A Russian Officer's Spontoon Head
Late 18th/Early 19th Century

With broad tapering blade (some pitting) incised on each side with a crowned Imperial eagle above a vacant scroll, the base with shaped swelling edges, turned and moulded neck, straight side-lugs of rectangular section with rounded recurved terminals, tapering faceted socket with three moulded bands, and long side-straps pierced for attachment
