Footnotes

This appears to be the only example so far recorded made by the Patentee. John Crundwell and David Lawrence are respectively recorded working in Ashford, Kent (1829-39) and Stroud, Kent (1831-51). Together they were granted British Patent No. 5845 of 15 September 1829 for their 'Lock For Fire-Arms'. For the only other known pistol incorporating the patent, by William Pritchard, and in the Royal Armouries, Leeds (XII.11627), see 'An English Crundwell Patent Percussion Pistol', The Gun Report, Vol. 46, No. 6 (November 2000), pp. 16-19
