A Rare Turkish Yataghan
Late 17th Century

With slightly recurved single-edged blade (some pitting) with narrow shallow fuller along the back on each side, the back of the blade with applied brass strip over half its length engraved with foliage and strapwork against a punched ground, hilt comprising border engraved quillon-block decorated with a cyprus tree and crescent on both sides, pointed langets each struck with an indistinct silver maker's mark, and tapering downcurved quillons each with foliate terminal, beaked ivory grips indented for the fingers, each carved with vertical lines inlaid with brass roundels and with a border of small brass nails, and brass grip-strap en suite with the back of the blade, in its wooden scabbard covered in brown leather (minor worming, chape missing)
