A 40-Bore Air Rifle
By Staudenmeyer, London, Early 19th Century

With russet turn-off octagonal leaf-sighted barrel signed along the top flat at the breech and rifled with eight grooves, threaded breech with gold line, signed border engraved action decorated with a garland suspended from a ribbon on top and with a martial trophy on the left side, engraved cocking-lever with roller bearing on the replaced external mainspring, border engraved trigger-guard decorated with a martial trophy and foliage, iron butt reservoir now covered in brown leather, figured fore-end with dark horn cap, and later ramrod (iron parts with some wear and rust patination); together with an iron bullet mould and modern pump (3)
