A Fine Cased Colt 1851 Model Navy Percussion Revolver
No. 14068. For 1852

Engraved by the Gustave Young workshop in the 'Style No. 2' pattern on each side of the breech, involving, on the left side, a wolf's head, frame with a bird's head on the left side and engraved 'Colt's Patent', hammer, the nose engraved as a monster-head, on each side of the rammer, on the brass grip-strap, on the bow of the brass trigger-guard, and on the barrel-wedge, the barrel with New York City address, cylinder with roll engraved naval engagement scene, varnished figured rounded grips, matching numbers, and retaining much of its original blued, case-hardened and silvered finish: in contemporary fitted oak case lined in blue velvet with accessories including James Dixon & Sons flask with long nozzle, split-ring for suspension, and retaining much of its original lacquered finish, and blued steel bullet mould (some bruising) stamped 'Colt's Patent', the interior of the lid with Directions for Loading and Cleaning, the exterior originally with shaped brass escutcheon
