A Rare Colt Hartford-English Dragoon Percussion Revolver
No. 205 For 1853

With sighted russet rounded barrel with New York City address along the top flat at the breech and retaining faint traces of original blueing, cylinder with roll engraved Texas Ranger and Indian scene, and with 'Model U.S.M.R.' and 'Colt's Patent', each framed in foliage, frame stamped 'Colt's Patent' on the left side, rammer, brass trigger-guard and back-strap (originally silvered), the latter engraved with owner's crest, motto and initials, varnished figured rounded grips (minor bruising, one with small chip), and matching numbers (action defective, some surface patination), London proof marks; together with a small six-shot pin-fire pocket revolver, with folding trigger, and rounded ivory grips (old splits, russet overall), Birmingham proof marks (2)

Footnotes

The crest and motto appear to be those of a Scottish family

Only about seven hundred of these revolvers are thought to have been produced between 1853 and 1857, of which two hundred were returned to Hartford in 1861 for use in the American Civil War
