A Fine Cased Pair Of Liège 50-Bore Percussion Target Pistols
By Th. Bodson, Arquebusier Brè. A Liège, Circa 1850

With blued octagonal sighted barrels each engraved with scrolling foliage at the muzzle and rifled with twelve grooves, decorated with flutes along the angles and signed in gold along the top flats at the breech, breeches and tangs each engraved with scrolling foliage and numbered '1' and '2' in gold respectively, the latter each incorporating a back-sight, border engraved detented locks, rounded hammers and mounts all decorated en suite, the last comprising shaped pommels each with blued baluster terminal, spur trigger-guards, and barrel-bolt escutcheons, highly figured half-stocks carved with foliage in relief against a finely punched ground on each fore-end and along each side of the fluted butts, and in unfired condition retaining all their original blued and dull grey finish: in original ebonised fitted wooden case lined in red baize with full accessories including brass-mounted flask with reeded copper body, the exterior of the lid with shaped brass escutcheon engraved with owner's name 'Mr. N. Reyntiens' in gothic script and framed by pierced and engraved foliage, Liège proof
