A Belgian 20-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun
By P. Meyer, Armurier Du Roy, Bruxelles, Early 19th Century

With browned twist sighted barrel with two gold lines around the muzzle and inscribed 'Canon Tordu' in elaborate gold-inlaid script along the breech, breech with gold-inlaid engraved flaming grenade between gold lines, gold-lined touch-hole, foliate engraved tang involving a leopard's mask and with a starburst in the raised groove for sighting, border engraved flat bevelled lock signed in script and decorated with a quiver and foliage on the tail, stamped 'W.B' on the inside and with safety-stud, engraved English cock with original top jaw, rainproof pan and roller, figured half-stock (reduced from full, bruised on one side of the butt) carved with basketweave at the fore-end and grip, the latter carved in relief with a lion's mask, cheekpiece carved with a flower-head, border engraved russet iron mounts comprising butt-plate with a bird in a landscape on the heel tang, trigger-guard with a martial trophy on the bow, trigger-plate and rear ramrod-pipe both with pineapple finial, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's monogram, later silver fore-end cap and under-rib, and later brass-mounted ramrod
