Third Quarter Of The 16th Century
Comprising a burgonet with one-piece skull (minor holes) rising to a knop-shaped finial (damaged) and decorated with a raised design of petals and stalks, the hinged fall (repaired), neck-defence and deep hinged cheekpieces all with a border of raised lozenges within a waved turned and roped edge, the cheekpieces each with a raised floret pierced with circular holes over the ear, almain collar comprising a main plate and two neck-plates front and rear, hinged on the left and with locking catches on the right, spaudlers of six plates each, the bottom lames terminating in a raised trefoil, cuirass comprising breast-plate with prominent central point flanked by two raised trefoils on roped stems, moveable gussets, and prominent roped turns at the neck and arms, skirt of three plates, and knee-length laminated tassets of six plates each and embossed with quatrefoils, the lowest deeper and bluntly pointed, the main edges turned and mostly roped, the surfaces with raised bands and borders incised with lines, all bright against a blackened ground, and with dome-headed brass rivets throughout; together with a pair of later black and white gauntlets en suite (fingers missing)
