A Pair Of German Bridle Gauntlets
Late 16th/Early 17th Century

Of bright iron, each comprising an elbow-length cuff made in two pieces, each with low medial ridge and recessed turned and roped border, five articulated metacarpal plates extending down the back of the hand to the prominently ridged and roped knuckle-plate, shaped finger base-plate, overlapping finger plates each with medial ridge and riveted to later leathers, hinged four-plate thumb defences en suite, and domed brass-covered iron rivets throughout (some rust patination and replacements) (2)
