Footnotes

Whilst the mechanism of this gun outwardly resembles that of a Darne, it is infact of the maker's own design, the breech block riding on concealed ball bearings for an extremely smooth operation. Charlin produced relatively few guns, generally of very high quality, often marked with swallows engraved on the flats denoting various different grades. The barrel flats on this particular gun are marked with six swallows and the action flat with three, indicating that it is a best quality gun.
