The action incorporating J. Deeley ejector patent no. 4269 of 26th March 1886, fluted fences engraved W. Horton, Glasgow, the sides of the treble-grip action-body engraved with trailing foliage bordered by foliate-scrollwork, toplever engraved with a female mask and Horton's Patent Poly-Grip, well-figured stock with engraved gold escutcheon and horn butt-plate, the barrels with game-rib engraved W. Horton, 98 Buchanan St., Glasgow, Patent Adjustable Trigger Action

According to Nigel Brown's British Gunmakers, Volume Two, William Horton was at 98 Buchanan Street between 1901 and 1909. The unspecified patents referred to may be O. Horton toplever patent no. 20,940 of 1st December 1891 and action patent no. 3634 of 20th February 1901.

The escutcheon is believed to be engraved with the crest and motto of McFarlane, and bears Glasgow hallmarks for 1898
