A Rare Pair Of Irish 16-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Pistols
By Edwards, Almost Certainly William, Dublin, Dublin Silver Marks, Maker's Mark Of Thomas Johnson Or Thomas Jones, Circa 1780

With two-stage barrels each turned at the girdle, octagonal breeches each signed along the top flat and stamped with Cork, East Riding registration mark 'EC-074', gold-lined touch-holes, border engraved tangs, elaborately signed flat bevelled locks each chiselled and engraved with foliage at the stepped tail, cocks decorated en suite, large rollers, figured full stocks (early replacements, one broken through at the butt), cast and chased mounts comprising pierced side-plates with strapwork and foliage centred on a draped ledge, border engraved spurred pommels each with grotesque mask cap within a border of linked scallop shells, foliate engraved escutcheons with owner's monogram, trigger-guards each with foliate finial (one pierced with a hole) and engraved with flower-heads on the bow, silver ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped ramrod (the other missing, steel parts with some surface rust and patination), private Birmingham proof marks (2)
