A Cased Pair Of 25-Bore Percussion Duelling Pistols
By H.W. Mortimer, London, Gun Maker To His Majesty, Circa 1785-90

Converted from flintlock, with bright octagonal sighted barrels, one retaining traces of maker's details along the top flat, engraved breeches each signed in gothic script with the converter's name 'Harvey' on the top flat, engraved tangs each incorporating a back-sight, signed border engraved flat detented locks each decorated with banners on the stepped tail, engraved safety-catches, figured full stocks (some bruising, fore-ends repaired) with chequered rounded butts, each pommel carved with radiating flutes, steel spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial and engraved with a trophy on the bow, set triggers, turned ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods (steel parts with some wear overall): in later lined and fitted oak case with some accessories including three-way brass-mounted powder-flask with body of tapering ovoidal section embossed with two vertical lines of beadwork over each side, the exterior of the lid with circular vacant brass escutcheon, London proof marks
