Basically First Half Of The 17th Century
Of steel, comprising a wide-brimmed pot with skull (large riveted patched repair on each side) with roughly turned comb, and later brim with turned edge bordered by embossed imitation rivets, breast-plate with low medial ridge drawn out to a blunt point at the base, narrow skirt with a belt-hook above on each side, turned at the neck and arms, and with two studs for later iron-mounted leather shoulder-straps, back-plate en suite, mounted together with a buff leather coat and brown leather baldrick, the latter carrying a composite cup-hilt rapier with tapering double-edged blade (some pitting) with central fuller on each side of the forte, the hilt with fluted cup-guard, straight quillons and knuckle-guard each with button terminals, compressed pommel with button finial, and leather-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire: on a wooden stand mounted on a wooden plinth; together with an 8-bore matchlock musket with mid-17th century barrel, the remainder later, the octagonal sighted barrel struck with a crowned shield-shaped mark on the top flat at the breech (some pitting overall)
