A Very Rare Italian Cinquedea
Circa 1500

In excavated condition, with tapering double-edged blade and single slender fuller on each side, the forte retaining traces of etched decoration on one side, the flattened downbent quillons retaining some of their pounced ornament, the flattened ivory grip swelling at its centre, rising to an integral lobated pommel, and inlaid with bronze circles and stellate panels, retaining the chape of the scabbard (losses from blade, hilt and chape)
