A Venetian Shiavona
17th/18th Century

With bright tapering blade with central fuller over its entire length on each side, the forte on both sides etched with stars, a sun-in-splendour and a man-in-the-moon, characteristic iron basket guard comprising three diagonal bars joined at the top to the knuckle-guard with small scroll terminal, corresponding inner bar with central diagonal bar, inner guard incorporating a thumb-ring, three upbent leaf-shaped bars on the outside, downbent arms, slightly curved rear quillon, shield-shaped pommel with plain boss on each side and pierced with two small holes, and grip bound with twisted brass wire
