An Unusual Russian Dagger
Mid-19th Century, Probably Tula

With finely etched twist tapering double-edged blade with double central fuller over most of its length on each side, the forte on both sides struck with pseudo-Arabic bladesmith's mark, steel hilt comprising ovoidal basal mounts with fluted borders, and swelling grip with horse-head pommel chased overall in imitation of hide, the latter formed in the round with prominent ears and engraved mane, in original steel scabbard brightly etched overall with foliage involving a scene of the chase along one side, locket mounts en suite with the hilt, and button terminal (some rust patination)
