A Fine Italian Mace
16th Century

Entirely of steel, the head of seven reinforced dolphin-shaped flanges each etched with a dolphin on both sides, showing brazing and each with a pierced scroll above and below, and with turned button finial on a fluted circular plate, on seamed slightly tapering tubular haft pierced for a thong and with suspension ring on a circular plate at the end, etched overall with bands of foliage involving trophies of arms, masks, winged cherub's heads and demi-figures (some wear overall, particularly to the haft)
