An Unusual Balkan 22-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistol, And A Greek Or Balkan Cartridge Box (Palaskes)
Both 19th Century

The first with russet barrel chiselled with birds, animals, a standing human figure and a mounted horseman, the last at the breech, tang covered by a cast brass plate, flat bevelled russet lock chiselled with profile human heads with punched borders, cock en suite, steel chiselled with a human mask, brass full stock (broken in front of the lock) roughly cast and chased with foliate decoration, curved butt with imitation wire binding and bulbous pommel en suite with the stock, trigger-guard and muzzle-sleeve also en suite, and false ramrods; the second of parcel-gilt brass and of characteristic cartouche-shaped form, the front engraved with a trophy of arms involving two owls and the figure of Victory holding a severed head, all against a punched ground and within a foliate border, the sides and domed hinged lid en suite, the latter with crest cast and pierced with foliage, the back with pierced belt-loop (2)
