A Persian Steel Kulah Khud, Dhal And Bazu Band
Qajar, 19th Century

The first with domed skull, gold-damascened central spike of diamond section, two plume-holders and adjustable nasal en suite (securing screw missing), and vandyked camail (minor holes) of butted iron rings interrupted by rows of butted brass rings; the second of convex circular form with four gold-damascened domed bosses and applied brass border; the third shaped to the fore-arm and with two wrist-plates attached by butted iron rings, each retaining its red textile lining and decorated overall with gold-damascened cartouches and borders, all against a ground of chiselled flowering foliage, the kulah khud and dhal each involving medallions chiselled with courtly figures in contemporary costume and bordered with ovoidal and circular panels chiselled with silver-damascened Persian verses in cursive script: all mounted on a shield-shaped board covered in red velvet (3)
