An Indian Dhal
Late 19th Century

Of steel and of convex circular form, with applied silver-damascened shaped rim and four gold-damascened steel bosses each with pierced border, the outer surface chiselled in low relief with concentric bands centred on buidlings and decorated respectively with lions attacking prey and elephants, calligraphy and a procession involving a cannon being driven by oxen, elephants, horsemen, foot soldiers and bearers, all enriched with gold-damascened details, the outer border chiselled with silver-damascened foliage interrupted by gold-damascened lions attacking their prey
