A Highly Decorated Turkish Kilij
19th Century

With broad curved blade of characteristic form damascened in gold with a blade-shaped panel of Turkish inscriptions against a ground of foliage along the back on each side, and with gold-damascened scrolling foliage on each side of the yelman, the forte on each side with variously shaped gold-damascened cartouches each en suite with the panels along the back of the blade, gilt-copper hilt comprising downcurved quillons with bluntly-pointed langets, and grip of oval section with pommel of scrolled rounded form, profusely decorated overall with filigree ovals and roundels set with fluted ovoidal red corals and cabochon turquoises, in original wood-lined scabbard with two suspension mounts each carrying a ring for suspension, the outer side set with corals and turquoises en suite with the hilt, the latter including seven larger pieces variously incised, three with inscriptions, the inner side embossed and chased with a running design of scrolling flowering foliage against a finely punched ground, and in fine condition
