A Large Albanian Jambiya
19th Century

Of characteristic form, with broad curved double-edged blade of slightly hollowed watered steel forming a medial ridge over its entire length on each side, the forte on each side chiselled with shaped cartouches containing gold-damascened Arabic script and foliage, all within double gold line borders and surmounted by a pointed panel of gold-damascened arabesques, and walrus-ivory grip of oval section with deeply hooked guard and pommel, in original wooden scabbard entirely covered in silver sheet, the deep locket, chape (terminal missing) and borders in imitation of wire binding, and with a pierced loop for suspension on the inside
