A Caucasian Kindjal
Russian Silver Marks For 1890

With broad sharply tapering blade (some pitting) deeply cut with an off-set fuller over most of its length on both sides, one side engraved with an Arabic inscription between bird's heads and with the date 1357 A.H., waisted hilt with dark horn grip-scales divided by a nielloed silver border, and with nielloed silver mounts chased with symmetrical foliage against a finely punched ground on the outside, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with nielloed silver locket and chape (finial missing) en suite with the hilt, the former with suspension mount and nielloed on the inside with the lion badge of the Qajars above the date 1357 A.H., and a pheasant, the latter with a nielloed Arabic inscription within a triangular panel and entwined serpents (minor damage)
