An Indian Katar, An Indian Dagger, And Two Ceylonese Kastana
17th Century And Later

The first with watered tapering double-edged blade reinforced at the point and with slender medial ridge along each side, the forte now with a shaped plate damascened in gold with scrolling foliage, one side with an applied roundel set with imitation cut gemstones (some missing) framing a painted portrait bust of a Maharajah, and characteristic hilt damascened with scrolling foliage overall, in its wooden scabbard covered in black leather; the second with earlier blade of similar form to the last (worn and pitted), and swelling steel hilt comprising short quillons, pommel en suite and surmounted by a spherical finial, and tapering grip, in its wooden scabbard covered in brown leather; the last each of characteristic form, with curved single-edged blades each retaining some brass decoration, hilts comprising downcurved quillons and knuckle-guard each with dragon's head terminal and retaining some applied brass decoration, and horn grips each carved with a monster-head pommel (worn and pitted); together with the gilt-brass locket and chape from a Chinese sword scabbard, each cast, pierced and chased with foliage inhabited by dragons (5)
